Cancer that develops in or near the spinal cord or within the vertebrae can lead to further complications. If a tumor develops in the spinal canal, it can compress the spinal cord and nerve roots, possibly causing vertebral collapse, resulting in pain.

When a bone becomes cancerous, it may weaken and collapse. The cancer may also spread. To prevent loss of nerve function below the tumor and further resulting problems, treatment is important.

Treatment options include monitoring, medications, surgery, radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery or chemotherapy.
