Facet Joint Syndrome (Arthritis)

Arthritis and Neck Pain Treatment and Relief

Facet Joints help stabilize the spine and limit excessive motion. If they deteriorate, they become swollen and stiff, which causes Vertebral Bones to rub directly against each other. Depending on where the spine is damaged with this condition, the patient may experience headaches or pain in the neck, shoulders, upper middle or lower back, buttocks or the back of the thighs.

The condition can occur from everyday wear and tear, from injury to the back or neck, or from degeneration of an Intervertebral Disc.

If non-surgical methods, such as rest, ice, heat, anti-inflammatory medications, and physical therapy fail to relieve pain, a Facet Rhizotomy or Bone Fusion may be performed.
